Day One:

In the city of Otavalo we will visit the Plaza de los Ponchos, the most important commercial center of craftsmanship and cultural interaction in Ecuador. Here we will be able to observe and acquire a variety of handicrafts made of tagua, balsa wood, semiprecious stones and also typical clothing accessories of the Otavalo culture.

After this visit we will continue to the city of Cotacachi which is the perfect place to buy leather clothing by searching the best offers along the many stores that have a variety of products including handicrafts made by the skillful Cotacachi craftsmen. With the completion of this activity we start our journey to the Intag Valley, having our first stop at the Cuicocha Lake, known as the Lake of the Gods or Tsui – Cocha, formed in a volcanic crater. It is located on the foot of the Cotacachi Volcano with an altitude of 3068 MSL, which is part of the Cotacachi – Cayapas Ecological Reserve. Here we can take pictures and admire the landscape.

Our destination will be the restaurant “Paradero Turístico la Cucharita” in the Pucará Community, where we will be able to eat a delicious Intag dish for lunch, followed by a horse ride through a path that allows us to enjoy beautiful landscapes, orchids and a marvelous waterfall that leads us to the settlement of Plaza Gutierrez. In this place we will have fun walking around the village to learn how the craftswomen work with a natural fiber, called cabuya (Furcrea Andina), manufacturing many objects like bottle holders, bags, backpacks and other products.
